The concept behind V2G had gained traction in the late 1990s after California’s landmark zero-emission-vehicle (ZEV) mandate went into effect and compelled automakers to commercialize electric cars. In such an emergency, a bidirectional EV with charge to spare could come to the rescue.

ACE-EV X1 Transformer – Australian-based start-up plans a small range of affordable EVs focused on light commercial duties. $5 BMW M cars – they’re coming with hybrid drivetrains. And if we’re guessing, we reckon it could be called the Ranger Lightning (see above). Soon, apparently.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
