Researchers convert atmospheric CO2 to carbon nanofibers and nanotubes for use as anodes in Li-ion and Na-ion batteries

Green Car Congress

Researchers from George Washington University and Vanderbilt University have demonstrated the conversion of atmospheric CO 2 into carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for use as high-performance anodes in both lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries. times above that of sodium-ion batteries with graphite electrodes.

CO2-neutral hydrogen storage with a bicarbonate/formate system

Green Car Congress

Here, we describe for the first time the design of a reversible hydrogen storage cycle based on the redox system bicarbonate/formate. Bicarbonates are a component of many natural stones and are also commonly used as baking powder or sherbet (sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO 3 ). Unfortunately, this has not yet been achieved.

Electric bus wins: BYD in Nottingham, Irizar in Bilbao

Green Car Congress

The Chinese-built BYD eBuses will run on the CentreLink and EcoLink routes which have been designed to cut the amount of traffic entering the city centre. Thirteen new electric buses have been added to Nottingham’s existing fleet of 45 electric vehicles, turning another two park and ride services into fully zero emission services.

Turbo-alternator-shaft design for the SNL S-CO 2 test loop. The key component of these loops is the turbo-alternator-compressor unit (TAC) and the technologies used in its design. Because of the extremely high power densities and fluid density, Sandia has filed a Technical Advance for the TAC design. Source: Wright et al.

PARC building cleantech portfolio; co-extrusion printing of novel battery electrodes and carbon-neutral renewable liquid fuels from atmospheric CO2

Green Car Congress

PARC is focusing on recovery using a novel electrochemical approach developed at PARC: high-pressure bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BPMED), and has designed, constructed and begun testing of a prototype for CO 2 separation. One possible technique for this might be the use of spray towers, Elrod noted.)

Stanford team develops efficient electrochemical cells for CO2 conversion

Green Car Congress

The electrochemical cells created by Kanan and his team combat these inefficiencies with a modified design that produces a concentrated stream of ethylene gas and a sodium acetate solution 1,000 times more concentrated than product obtained with previous cells. —Matthew Kanan.
