Goodbye To the Minivan. Kia is out of the minivan business and is shaking up things with the all-new 2022 Carnival. The Korean car company will remind you it is not a minivan but an MPV or Multi-Purpose Vehicle. With those words it hopes to remove the stigma of people saying “I will never own a minivan.”. All-New, All-Hybrid Family-Friendly Minivan. To further its electrification commitment, Toyota has released two 2021 hybrid-only models–the Venza crossover and the Sienna minivan. Chrysler calls it a “multipurpose vehicle,” but we will stick with modern minivan. The only minivan with a plug. If Chrysler had their way, you will see it more as a multi-purpose vehicle than a minivan. The minivan stigma is exactly that, as the Pacifica Hybrid is as modern and versatile as anything on the road.

Wagons have often been stereotyped as boring – especially before the shift to minivans and later, SUVs, which made them seem cool again – but boring isn’t always bad. A Climate Package ($750) added headlamp cleaners, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. Sometimes it’s nice and peaceful. The cabin helps.

Volvo has pulled the drapes off the Volvo EM90, its first minivan in more than 70 years of car-making. Not only that it’s battery-powered and more luxurious than its flagship XC90 SUV. They even have their own folding tray tables and control panel to adjust the climate control, audio and other features.

The Model X SUV remained “Much-Worse-Than-Average” for reliability, with ongoing problems including the falcon-wing doors and center display screen. The Grand Cherokee and Renegade improve to “Average,” while the Cherokee and Compass SUVs have “Below-Average” reliability. Jeep has mixed results, falling two spots to 22.
