Tsinghua/Argonne Study Finds That Mass Use of EVs in China Could Result in Higher CO2 and Criteria Pollutant Emissions Than Conventional and Hybrid Gasoline Vehicles Due to Coal-Fired Generation of Electricity

Green Car Congress

Another concern associated with EVs is that they could increase emissions of criteria pollutants like SO 2 and NO x because power plants are believed to be the largest contributor to China’s SO 2. EV myths busted: Are electric vehicles actually good for the environment?

Drive Electric

These vehicles use large traction battery packs to power the motor. Because EVs run on electricity, the vehicle emits no exhaust from a tailpipe and does not contain the typical liquid fuel components in ICEVs. If it’s manufactured on a ‘dirty’ power grid it becomes a major source of emissions over the EV lifecycle.
