EC Survey finds majority of Europeans willing to compromise on performance, size, range and price to reduce vehicle emissions; 53% say they use car as main mode of transport

Green Car Congress

Cyprus, Luxembourg, Greece and France were the countries where the largest proportions of respondents were willing to compromise on a car’s speed, size and range, when making a purchase, in order to reduce emissions. After controlling for the different levels of “don’t know” responses, it was noted that men and the self-employed would be somewhat less likely to compromise on a car’s speed, price or range in order to be able to buy a “cleaner” car.

EEA report suggests road charges for heavy-duty goods vehicles should reflect varied health effects of pollution in different countries

By incorporating these costs into the price of goods, we can encourage healthier transport methods and cleaner technologies. At the other end of the scale, the same truck driving in Cyprus, Malta and Finland causes damage of around €0.005 (US$0.01) per kilometer. Charging haulage companies for the external costs of air pollution would incentivize newer and cleaner technologies, the report says.

EEA TERM Report Finds Efficiency Gains of Clean Vehicle Technology Being Offset By Ongoing Increases in Travel

Green Car Congress

While technological advances are producing cleaner vehicles, more and more passengers and goods are travelling further distances in Europe, thereby offsetting efficiency gains. None of the EEA scenarios considered delivered the targeted reduction in transport GHG emissions. The closest is the combination of improved technology and “avoid and shift” policies. Carmakers are going green but British motorists are not

Green Cars News

The report found that strict new emissions laws are having a strong effect on the availability of cleaner cars, but wealth, motoring taxes, fuel prices and consumer attitudes, which vary wildly from country to country across Europe, have much more of an effect on how clean a car is chosen.&#.
