Then as the sun sets in the West, hopefully the battery pack would have enough juice to power the house for the rest of the evening. .

If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. A simple, clean, efficient EV that wont run out of juice because of its on-board gas generator.
