Between my electric bikes, e-motorcycles, e-ATVs, electric tractors, and a few other things I’m probably forgetting, having a weather-sealed, solar-powered off-grid charging shed would be a big benefit. There are many ways to skin a cat, and even more ways to add solar power to a shipping container. Here’s how I did it.

At $7,299, the bundle doesn’t come cheap. It consists of the GM Energy Powershift Charger at $1,699, and GM Energy V2H Enablement Kit at $5,600. But it’s comparable to other battery storage costs – a Powerwall costs $11,500 with a solar installation through Tesla – and GM’s system eliminates the need to install battery storage.

Keep an Emergency Kit in your Electric Vehicle. Arming yourself with an emergency car kit can help give you peace of mind if you happen to get stranded in the elements. It should include items such as granola bars, a reflective blanket, rope or cordage and a first aid kit.

Speaking of home battery solutions, GM Energy also plans to sell one of those, though that unit won’t be for sale until later this year (same with solar integration, which will also come this year). That’s important, because the system isn’t cheap. Batteries will be available in 10, 17, and 35kWh packages.
