That car was the 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line, and I managed to find one in a Denver-area car graveyard recently. Ford launched the Escape Hybrid as a 2005 model (its Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute siblings showed up a bit later), so The General had some catching up to do in the green-car department.

Buoyed by the US government’s CARS (“Cash for Clunkers”) program, US auto sales slowed their decline in the US in July, dropping on 12.1% Passenger car sales dropped 10.6% General Motors. We may need ICE vehicles to get there (gas cars will serve for long distance travel even as EVs come to market, I believe) but they should be parked and forgotten. Feet, pedals and electric motors only will make for a much more pleasant and greener event. nk Global , the reinvigorated Norwegian electric car maker.

He yanked big engines out of American cars and replaced them with electric motors that worked in tandem with much smaller gasoline engines. He called his new configuration the "plug-in hybrid" because it allowed homeowners to recharge the car's batteries by plugging into an electrical outlet. But Detroit auto makers ignored him.
