Rising fuel-economy standards during the 2020s will do the same. The far higher volumes of carbon dioxide per mile from heavy trucks make them an obvious target for zero-emission powertrains. Furthermore, like passenger EVs, their carbon emissions per mile will fall over their lifetimes as the grids they’re charged on decarbonize.
