SacRT began piloting the service in February 2018 in partnership with the Franklin Neighborhood Development Corporation using compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. Green Commuter is a Los-Angeles-based shared mobility company that provides zero-emissions solutions for vanpools, employee transportation, and delivery vehicles.

Since it first began operation in April 2017, the Project Portal “Alpha” truck has logged nearly 10,000 miles of testing and real-world drayage operations in and around the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles while emitting nothing but water vapor. Our goal with the first truck was to see if it could be accomplished, and we did that.

With energy efficiency mandates now a major part of California state law and goals of weatherizing millions of older homes around the state and cutting each building’s carbon footprint these ESCs will become valuable go-to centers for homeowners and businesses. The far higher volumes of carbon dioxide per mile from heavy trucks make them an obvious target for zero-emission powertrains. Emissions come way down, and so does cost, but … There’s no longer any question that electric trucks have significantly lower lifetime carbon footprints than any trucks running on fossil fuel.
