To help facilitate this goal, the Department of Transportation is building a network of 500,000 EV chargers to connect the country along its network of interstate highways by 2030. The US federal government wants at least 50% of new vehicle sales in the US to be electric by 2030.

New vehicles to be deployed include 55 CNG vehicles, 363 propane vehicles, 89 hybrid electric vehicles, and 56 neighborhood electric vehicles. This initiative demonstrates and promote of the feasibility of alternative fuel sources, education and public outreach, and reduction of pollution/emissions. Total DOE award: $12,975,388.

Right now I’m working on a committee where we’re defining the standard for an ePTO (electric power take-off) connection. Transporting goods out of that environment tends to have an overly heavy effect, particularly on less opportune communities because they’re kind of built around the port, so they’re very sensitive to that pollution.

We are suggesting that the variation in power and energy from renewable sources can be managed much more easily and economically with the batteries in PHEVs when they are plugged into the grid with a low power connection. This does not mean that you will not be able to buy that Cadillac or Corvette you have been admiring.
