The electric car pricing war is well and truly underway! The GWM Ora is now clearly the cheapest and most affordable new electric car sold in Australia thanks to $35,990 drive-away pricing announced this morning for the Standard Range model. MG4 was the price leader before the GWM Ora undercut it by $4000.

GWM has joined the electric vehicle price fight, slashing the price of its Ora battery electric small car by $4000 to reset it below the magic $40,000 mark. The new $39,990 price for the Ora Standard Range pitches it head-to-head with the $38,890 BYD Dolphin and the $39,990 MG4 Excite 51 , as China’s EV price war heats up.

Unsurprisingly it’s Hyundai, launching its Inster city crossover SUV into Aussie hands early in 2025 with a target price – Hyundai Australia says – around $40,000. Hopefully they’ll squeeze it in for less to properly challenge the Chinese cheapies, who this year have been busy price war squabbling.
