Chinese battery maker and car manufacturer Build Your Dreams (BYD) Auto is to display its electric cars at the annual shareholders’ meeting of US conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway as it bids to tap into the North American market.

Li said although the market in new energy vehicles was yet to take off due to the lack of a large-scale battery recharging network or sufficient government subsidies, the firm is confident it can make a difference. BYD stands for "build your dream". It plans to begin delivering on the E6, a pure electric car, later this year.

The company also announced in June that it will build electric family sized minivans, SUVs and fleet vans with DOE funding (see article ) and it has formed a partnership with Daimler to provide powertrain components for the electric Smart car.

Also at the Paris Air Show, EADCO and PC-Aero are presenting their two-motor electric aircraft project “Elektro E6”. The Elektro E6 is envisioned to feature a full carbon composite structure, two motors, high wing propeller, solar cells technology, 6 seats, 480 kg (1,058 lb) payload and 500-km (311-mile) range. and 1 hour, EADS said.

Last fall, Buffett’s MidAmerican Energy Holdings unit of Berkshire Hathaway (Stock Quote: BRK.A ) paid $230 million for a 10% stake in BYD Auto (short for “build your dreams”), based in Shenzhen, China. Plugging In BYD’s all-electric E6 mid-sized vehicle can run for 250 miles on a single charge and tops out at 100 miles per hour.
