Standardizing PEV batteries could reduce the purchase and ownership costs of PEVS, as well as addressing additional consumer issues such as maintenance and safety. The conversion process will also produce biochar, a soil amendment that can be used for agricultural purposes. The project includes $437,093 in match funding from Anaergia.

The HRB system-equipped trucks will be operated in all five of the City’s boroughs, to test fuel efficiency and other parameters in a wide range of neighborhoods, seasonal conditions, and operating environments. Reduced brake maintenance costs and the associated vehicle downtime offer another significant system savings.
