And while it’s improved, the build quality doesn’t match the big boys (you don’t have to look far to spot glitches). No, it’s not practical or family friendly, but who cares, it’s an EV that brings genuine joy, and one that gives any Tesla a proper spanking in terms of build quality and driver involvement.

Then its stylishly integrated door handles, giant 21-inch five-spoke alloys, clamshell bonnet and strikingly detailed LED lights everywhere (I don’t want to think about their replacement cost). There’s serious intricacy to much of the body design – especially around its sculpted, light fantastic rear end. Theatrical inside too.

But even as a hybrid the Niro doesn’t come particularly cheap. Up front there are USB-A and USB-C plugs, while those in the rear can access USB-C plugs build into the sides of the front seats. The steering feels well-weighted (not too light, but not like you’re trying to open a stubborn jar of pickles either).
