BMW is providing the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis with ten battery-electric, BMW i3 models for 18 months. Transitioning fleets to electric vehicles helps advance clean energy technologies and reduce emissions from transportation. The other two will be used by project researchers. —Dahlia Garas.

BMW handed over forty electric MINI E cars to their test drivers on Sunday—all members of the public—in the start of two consecutive six-month field trial periods which will evaluate the psychological, social and technical aspects of living with an electric car. A full recharge draws a maximum of 28 kWh of electricity from the grid.
