With a 70 kWh battery, the Dolphin EV can travel up to 250 miles (400 km). An extended range version (150 kWh battery) offers up to 295 miles (476 km) range, starting at ¥4 million ($27,000). The Chinese automaker already accounted for over 1% of Japan’s total auto sales last month.

CGA has a network of more than 200 retail stores carrying 40 brands including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus and Lamborghini. Fisker Automotive’s first car, the Fisker Karma, will make its Chinese debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2011. Initial Chinese customer deliveries are expected to take place in the fall.

Encased in metal and painted black, the battery looked much smaller than a Roadster pack and is said to be able to power the fortwo up to 100 miles. However, because of the duty cycle used by the Postal Service, which generally amounts to only about 18-20 miles per day on a fixed route, these vehicles are being built without the range extender seen on the concept. BYD , for examples, says their 60 mile range-extended vehicle can add 30 miles of range in ten minutes. For extended range I guess one could carry a fairly modest generator set in the trunk to avoid ever being stranded. it seems to me there is too much range anxiety about these machines.
