BMW i8 Concept Spyder. Following on the presentation of the BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concept coupé at the Frankfurt show in 2011 ( earlier post ), the BMW Group has introduced a third i Model: the BMW i8 Concept Spyder. Like the i8 coupé concept, the BMW i8 Concept Spyder with eDrive is a plug-in hybrid.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show, BMW unveiled the first i8 Roadster, along with the 2019 i8 Coupe. Optimized BMW eDrive technology delivers more power—total output increased to 369 hp (+12 hp)—and a refined high-voltage battery with increased capacity and range. Optimized BMW eDrive technology.

Within his talk about the need for a US energy policy at the IHS CERAWeek 2013 energy conference in Houston, GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson outlined some highlights of the company’s fuel economy plan through the 2016 model year. The near-term elements of GM’s fuel economy efforts he adduced are: Reduction in vehicle weight by up to 15%.

This limited production luxury sedan (1,500 units worldwide) ceased production in November 2021, and ushers-in a new era for the Polestar brand seeing only all-electric cars and SUVs going forward. A mild hybrid has an electric motor that provides efficiency for the main gasoline engine by allowing the engine to be turned off whenever the car is coasting, braking or stopped, then quickly restarted once power is required. The EPA rates fuel economy at 22 mpg city/29 highway/25 combined while running on 91 octane.
