The Fast-E project, co-financed by the European Union and nine companies, has officially launched , with the objective of installing 241 fast-charging charging stations in Germany and 37 in Belgium. A sister project between the Czech Republic and Slovakia will add another 30 charging stations.

As well as helping individuals find the most efficient route and travel mode, the systems should cut congestion and lower the environmental impacts of road transport. The novel system will be piloted in six European cities: Brno (Czech Republic), Bucharest (Romania), Florence (Italy), Munich (Germany), Oslo (Norway) and Vienna.

Portuguese drivers are the greenest in Europe when it comes to buying cars with an average CO2 rate of 138g/km (eg. EU regulation is striving to cut the CO2 emitted by cars to an average figure of 130 g/km by 2015.
