Even if electricity is produced from burning coal, the power plant is far away from population centers, transferred over power lines keeping any direct pollution away from the population. And the percentage of clean energy is growing every year as coal and gas plants are being replaced by renewable energy sources.

The benefit of a higher voltage connector has nothing to do with the speed at which the battery will charge it has to do with the conductor size. A 220 volt socket like on your water heater or dryer would be better, ad these typically have 40 or 50 amp circuits, so they can deliver 8,000 to 10,000 watts - is this what they mean?

April 10, 2009 10:09 am Link It amazes me that in the vast debate about electric cars world wide including here in Norway, no one ever mention the fact that the batteries in such cars need replacement in no more than five years. So imagine a million electric cars on US roads which all need to change these batteries in say 2015.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
