Rotterdam Taxi Centre (RTC), one of the biggest taxi operators in the Netherlands, is switching to electric taxis and has put into service two BYD e6 models, following successful extensive operation with an e6 model. The BYD e6 is a five-passenger, crossover vehicle powered by the BYD Fe battery (lithium-iron phosphate).

Chinese battery maker and car manufacturer Build Your Dreams (BYD) Auto is to display its electric cars at the annual shareholders’ meeting of US conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway as it bids to tap into the North American market. Electrical charging is also less likely to be a problem with many car owners having their own garages.

In China, leading automakers BYD and Chery have announced plans to roll out their own electric models within the next two years. In March, BYD chief executive officer Wang Chuanfu announced that in the first half of 2010 the company will sell only 100 e6 cars, to a taxi company in Shenzhen. Investors, too, are excited.
