Toyota Motor Europe (TME) Fuel Cell Business will supply and integrate fuel cell modules into a zero-emission train prototype as part of the FCH2RAIL project in Europe. An alternative is purely battery-powered trains, but these have a limited range of operation (30 to 70 kilometers), depending on the route profile and outside temperatures.

ABB has secured a contract with Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros Gondán to supply the all-electric power solution for fast 40-meter urban passenger ferries transporting up to 540 passengers each across Lisbon’s Tagus river. The 10 new ferries will be operated by the public ferry company Transtejo, S.A.

Luckily it seems as though Tesla is poised to double down on that growth, as the company’s infamous end-of-the-quarter push is now being seen in many parts of Europe , including in Portugal, where the company is overwhelming its available parking spaces and asking owners to pick up their vehicles as quickly as possible.

Such an undertaking would not be possible, using purely battery-powered electric vehicles. The fuel cell vehicles will travel through 14 countries: from southern Europe, through France, Spain and Portugal, the cars will continue on to North America, where they will drive through both the USA as well as Canada.

Buyerswill purchase the car – at about the same price as a conventional model –but lease the batteries from a third-party energy supplier for a monthly feeequivalent to the fuel costs for an economical petrol or diesel car. They are placing all their bets on pureelectric vehicles that produce zero emissions at the point of use.
