Paradox 1 - Soot: There's an apparent emissions paradox with plug-in hybrids (PHEV): Driving longer distances on battery power means more cold starts as the internal combustion engine (ICE) stops and starts up again after the batteries deplete. A supplemental electric heater comes right to mind.

I've been documenting electric cars in junkyards for about a decade. The first were converted gasoline vehicles fitted out with lead-acid battery packs ( a Chevy Sprint , a Geo Metro and a Ford Ranger ). I spotted a pair of France-built ZENN Electrics in 2017.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. Shifted earlier focus to all-electric Focus in 2011 with Magna. Company says its focusing on gasoline and hydrogen. Plans Saturn Vue PHEV-10.
