Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has awarded Stadler a framework agreement for up to 120 battery-powered trains. The FLIRT Akku vehicles are designed to replace the current diesel fleet and will enable sustainable operation on lines that are only partially electrified. The vehicle has an operating range of around 100 kilometers.

PostAuto Schweiz AG has become the first company in Switzerland to deploy fuel-cell technology for public road transport. A new addition is lithium-ion batteries, which store energy that is recovered during braking. The operating range of the fuel-cell bus is more than 250 kilometers (155 miles).
