Your power comes from the grid as 240 Volts AC. The panels generate DC current that varies with the solar power. The inverter converts the DC solar into AC power that can power the house or be directed back into the Grid as well as connecting up the Battery packs that uses 48 Volt DC. .

If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. Then consider that in order to actually go any farther than the neighbood store, one still had to have ANOTHER car. Toyota Prius modders have already been adding larger batteries so the vehicle can run on battery power.
