Long-term exposure to particulate air pollution has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, but the biological process has not been understood. Participant-specific pollutant concentrations averaged over the years 2000–10 ranged from 9.2–22.6 parts per billion (ppb) NO x. The study is published in The Lancet.
