Some cities are more likely to be early adopters of EV technology, and the EV-Ready Cities Index will be a helpful tool to guide and prioritize the development of those markets. It reflects the available government support, consumer acceptance, and the opportunity for EVs to provide the maximum benefits possible from electric drive.

In the Memorandum, the President specifically directs that by 31 December 2015, all new light-duty vehicles leased or purchased by agencies must be alternative fueled vehicles, such as hybrid or electric, compressed natural gas, or biofuel. Contracts were awarded for Chevrolet, Nissan, and Think City vehicles.

Conventional hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) have been on sale in the US for more than ten years; new vehicle hybrid sales in 2010 were approximately 2.5%. Think City EV. Uncertainties about EVs—including their resale value, range and availability of convenient charging facilities— may impose sales barriers.

Finland-based Valmet Automotive, which signed a letter of intent under which Valmet Automotive will be a production and engineering partner for the Think City electric vehicle, will also become a minor shareholder in Think. The partnership with Think supports our know-how in the manufacturing and development of electric cars.

Last week we told you how Think had expanded to Spain and now the Norwegian company has made several additional announcements at the Electric Vehicle Symposium in Norway. The founders of Google have made personal investments in Tesla as befits dotcom billionaires, and they're converting Priuses to plug-in hybrids for the company fleet with battery maker A123. I hope Google is realizing that their plug-in hybrid fleet could probably mostly be all-electric cars.

The result of the Lotus and Harman International technology collaboration will be to generate Active Noise Control system solutions available to vehicle manufacturers in all worldwide markets.
