Mitsubishi could be the first with cars for sale if the UK distributor has its way. From where I sit (in the driver's seat of a NiMH powered Toyota RAV4 EV) this seems eminently practical. Still I suspect there would be greater demand than initial supply. And now major automakers appear almost ready to get in on the action.

The i-MiEV is based on Mitsubishis i line of micro-cars which are quite popular in Japan. The four door i-Miev is only 11ft 1inches, 4ft 10inches wide, and 5ft 3inches tall but feels much roomier inside. Inside the car looks like a standard i-car but the gauges have very different meanings.

The trouble is you then have to stop right away, which brings about some pretty strong regenerative braking action, something that Chrysler needs to work on before making the Circuit available for sale. Of course, everything has its drawbacks and one problem with charging at home is that it is not an option available for some city dwellers. Although charging infrastructure is beginning to find its way into cities, it may be awhile until they are available in residential neighborhoods en masse. See the problem?

Last year Oregon had also aggressively negotiated with the Chinese carmaker, BYD , to manufacture its line of plug-in hybrids in the state for sale in the U.S.) electric car race with i MiEV in Oregon?
