The more that open networks are available, the lower the barrier to entry is for consumers who are on the fence about going electric. Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche and BMW have similar initiatives.

A handful of bidirectional-capable EVs are available today, and automakers are quickly implementing the technology. Last year, we only had about six buses that were connected at Cajon Valley Union School District , so we had a few tens of kilowatts of capacity that we were able to dispatch. That’s one way. It’s a big increase.

Gasoline/diesel fueling stations to replenish the liquid fuel for these engines are readily available. We are suggesting that the variation in power and energy from renewable sources can be managed much more easily and economically with the batteries in PHEVs when they are plugged into the grid with a low power connection.

Were told that the agreement includes nods of acceptance from the likes of Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, General Motors, Fiat, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Eon, Vattenfall, EDF, Npower, Endesa and Enel, and while theres no time frame for when itll be introduced, were pretty stoked to hear that at least something has been decided upon.
