Johnson Controls is expanding its manufacturing operations in China by beginning production of advanced lead-acid batteries for Start-Stop vehicles to help automakers meet increasingly strict fuel economy and emission regulations. The 12V Lithium-ion battery can increase fuel economy efficiency by up to 8%, according to the company.

If no one wants your car (because people think it sucks), then no one will buy it, regardless of how good the fuel economy may or may not be. cheaper (frame, electric motors, battery), lasts longer (less moving parts = less to break and maintain) and just a greater win, more future compatible too. in their short sited vision.
