European local solar panel manufacturers have reached a crisis in that they say they can’t compete with cheap imports and oversupply.

German auto giant Volkswagen on Tuesday announced plans for a cheaper-than-ever electric model, as it faces increasingly strong competition from Asian rivals that have taken a lead in battery technology. All four vehicles would be produced in Spain, Volkswagen said.

I dunno if it’s the biggest surprise, but the most pleasing news of 2022 was the way the irrepressible die-hards in what remains of the Aussie auto industry leapt on the opportunity EV presents. It’s not due to reach Australia until late 2023, but I drove it at its international media launch in Spain in early 2022.
