I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. On top of that, I’m currently running at 80+% electric miles. Still turning in max EV miles. 379,125 plug-in hybrids (26%). 11,956 fuel cell electrics (1.1%).

The startup carmaker Rivian was founded a decade ago by RJ Scaringe, but it didn’t go public with its electric pickup truck and SUV until the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. Rivian started its media drive on off-road trails, covering 60 miles and several hours at elevations of 9,000 to 12,000 feet. Stay tuned.
