In the Crown Victoria, the proof of concept powertrain conversion systems improve fuel economy from 80%-200% from the base 4.6L V8: from 14 mpg to up to 43 mpg, depending on vehicle use. ALTe already has Gen 1 proof-of-concept systems running in a Crown Vic taxi equipped with a 20 kWh Li-ion battery pack.

According to statistics from the Department of Transport, US motorists are fleeing their beloved SUVs and pick-up trucks as they make up 83 per cent of the top trade-ins. Indeed six of the top 10 trade-ins are SUVs with two mini-vans and two pick-up trucks rounding out the list. Our verdict – green shoots should not be ignored.

GM is developing more fuel-efficient vehicles. It offers 18 models that deliver 30 mpg or more.
