For the first time the presentation of AUDI AG at Auto Shanghai 2021 is taking place with two partners at a shared trade-fair stand. The first two products are made by a new partner, SAIC Audi. A6 e-tron concept. At the end of 2020 Audi announced the founding of the Audi FAW NEV Co.

The secret is that Polestar is an electric performance brand from Volvo and its Chinese owner, Geely Holding. My test car, in “Moon” metallic, started at $59,900, and with $1,200 extra for the paint and $1,300 for destination (it’s shipped from its Chinese factory), came to $62,400. Still a bit of a mystery. The Audi e-Tron GT , Kia EV6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N would be at the top of that list. The Atto 3 is charmingly if idiosyncratically styled, has a decent equipment list, a range between recharges as much as 400km in the real world, acceptable performance from its 150kW e-motor and a comfy if not especially dynamic ride/handling balance.

Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi who initially tried to play the H2 game, but now are totally anti-Hydrogen and are investing in battery electric cars. Toyota unveiled a concept version of a new electric SUV, the BZ4X, which will be the first in a new line of battery-electric vehicles. Maybe H2 will be okay in large vehicles like trucks.
