The ArvinMeritor hybrid has both mechanical and electrical propulsion systems (dual mode), which use the electric motor drive primarily for periods of high demand under low-speed, high-load operating conditions, such as accelerating from a stop. This technology could help Wal-Mart increase its fleet efficiency by up to 25%.

The winning project proposals (by award amount) are: Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, Georgia: $10,800,000. CATS’ fleet and financial plans call for the replacement 1998, 1999 and 2007 year diesel buses with new diesel buses in fiscal year 2012. Of that, $26.5 Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, Ohio: $2,257,000.
