Lutz responds to the sense that GM might be pulling back from its commitment to the Volt that resulted from Sharon Terlep's Detroit News article a month or so ago. (My We're curiously disappointed with all the talk about CO2 in Washington and we have to put industry's feet to the fire and improve fuel economy. Well worth a listen.

Its dive into the financial doldrums was short-lived however, and on July 10, 2009, the company bounced back with the formation of a new, downsized GM (see article ). It may never recapture its market share, but if its early success in China is anything to go by (see article ), the new GM will have a firm role to play in a new automotive era.

Bird Cage Liners article this morning: Asking carmakers to comply with California’s rules would be tantamount to forcing a cancer patient to “finish chemo and then go run the Boston Marathon,&# General Motors Corp. All I ever heard them do was badmouth the small Honda car I drive and complain about CAFE fuel economy standards.

The biggest problem with recharging at home - as already alluded to in the article, is that electric cars are mostly marketed as city vehicles. If every car accepts 2 or 4 or 6 of these universal packs then true economies of scale can kick in in their manufacture. I would prefer to recharge at home, and could do so.
