Photo: Hawaii Department of Transportation Hawaii’s first National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program EV charging station just came online on Maui. The NEVI program requires EV charging stations to be available every 50 miles and within one travel mile of the Alternative Fuel Corridor.

The ambitious program aims to ensure that EV drivers have access to fast charging along the most frequently-traveled routes, which stretch for 75,000 miles along the nation’s Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs). The state received $25 million in funding in 2022 and $37 million in 2023 to grow its 2,034-mile EV corridor network.
