Paradox 1 - Soot: There's an apparent emissions paradox with plug-in hybrids (PHEV): Driving longer distances on battery power means more cold starts as the internal combustion engine (ICE) stops and starts up again after the batteries deplete. Third-party and DIY converters can't muck with every system on a car. I'm afraid not.

Ford not only brought back its compact pickup, which some thought was a gamble, but the Maverick comes standard with a hybrid engine. As far as Maverick buyers, most of whom will be buying their first pickup, they will unknowingly become hybrid ambassadors. You can take it with you. A pretty good problem to have.
