This year’s expo was heavily focused on clean fleets. What originally started as a heavy-duty alternative fuels industry event has evolved into a broader clean fleet conference. Because of that, I attended a session titled “Local Governments Role in Decarbonizing On-road Vehicles.”

Massachusetts, for instance, offers its MassEVIP Workplace and Fleet Charging program , which covers 60% of the costs of EV charging equipment and installation for up to $50,000 per business address. Various tax and grant programs are available in every state except Alaska, Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, South Dakota and West Virginia.

Not long ago, the idea that major corporations around the world would make the bold move of switching to all-electric vehicle fleets would have seemed far-fetched, if not inconceivable. The initiative, led by Ceres, aims to push more corporations toward fleet electrification and help expand the demand for electric vehicles.

The alternative-fuel car evolved to reduce exhaust emissions and other problems derived from burning fossil fuels. The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix.
