Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) is growing its battery-electric fleet with the purchase of 10 K11M 60-foot articulated buses and six K7M 30-foot buses. The K11Ms were originally to go to the Albuquerque, but will now be operating on the streets of the Antelope Valley.

The New Mexico Environmental Improvement Board (EIB) and the Albuquerque-Bernalillo County Air Quality Control Board (AQCB) have each adopted the Clean Car Rule after a joint public hearing. Their independent approval of the Clean Car Rule allows California’s Advanced Clean Cars to be implemented statewide in New Mexico beginning 1 July 2022.

In a previous article, I mentioned Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART), a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that went in a few years ago in the city. Like many, I was disappointed that they replaced some allegedly problematic electric buses they had purchased from BYD with “clean diesel” articulated buses.

BYD is currently producing an additional 300 buses based on current customer orders and has options for more than 300 additional electric bus purchases. BYD has delivered 137 electric buses in the US and Canada, including more than 75 buses delivered in 2017.
