Ford Motor Company has developed an intelligent vehicle-to-grid communications and control system for its plug-in hybrid electric vehicles that communicates directly with the electric grid. All 21 of Ford’s fleet of plug-in hybrid Escapes eventually will be equipped with the vehicle-to-grid communications technology.

If an EV is charged with electricity that is generated from renewable sources (such as solar, wind, geothermal, or hydroelectric), then there are no fossil fuel emissions associated with that charging or driving process. Clean Fleet Report got a chance to sample the model at a recent media event in San Diego. There is a choice of eight colors—Jet Black Mica, Cypress, Celestite, Wind Chill Pearl (with a $425 added cost) and Sonic Silver Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic, Blue Crush Metallic and Acidic Blast. The last four have a contrasting black roof.

Transitioning the fleet to all electric will eliminate emissions from diesel buses and emissions from shipping diesel fuel by barge 900 miles from Seattle. Alabama A&M University. Alabama A&M University’s Bulldog Transit System will receive funding to purchase electric buses, charging stations, and other associated equipment.
