Latest GHG Inventory shows California remains below 2020 emissions target; much steeper rate of GHG reductions required

California’s latest greenhouse gas data shows that while the state continues to stay below its 2020 target for emissions, there is much more work to do to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. California statewide GHG emissions dropped below the 2020 GHG Limit in 2016 and have remained below the 2020 GHG Limit since then.

Calif. ARB releases GHG scoping plan update; more ZEVs, “LEV IV”, MD and HD regulations; ZEV for trucks; more LCFS

The 2013 Scoping Plan update lays out the remaining steps to the 2020 limits set by AB 32. Many of the strategies employed to reduce GHG emissions will also work to meet the national ambient air quality standard for ozone in 2032. Since its launch in 2011, the regulation has generated a multitude of unique approaches for cleaner fuels.

California Air Resources Board adopts GHG cap-and-trade program; first auctions slated for Aug/Nov 2012

The cap-and-trade joins a suite of other major climate program measures including standards for ultra-clean cars (Advanced Clean Cars, earlier post ), low-carbon fuels (Low Carbon Fuel Standard, earlier post ) and renewable electricity. The cap then declines about 2% in 2014 and then about 3% annually from 2015 to 2020.

California Air Resources Board posts revised draft of strategy to reduce “Super Pollutants”

California has already cut anthropogenic black carbon emissions by more than 90% since the 1960s, and existing measures are projected to cut mobile source emissions by 75% and total anthropogenic emissions by nearly 60% between 2000 and 2020. The SLCP Strategy is due to come before the Board for consideration in March 2017.

California Energy Commission adopts $100M investment plan for 2013-2014 for green vehicles and fuels
