Toyota has launched the new model RAV4 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) ( earlier post ) through dealerships in Japan. The fifth generation RAV4 was released in April 2019. The new RAV4 PHEV aims to boost the fun-to-drive appeal of RAV4, adopting the newly developed Toyota Hybrid System (THS II).

The Toyota Crown has been around since 1955 in Japan, and was the first Toyota model exported to the United States in 1957, where it was sold until 1960. The undetectable and seamless transitions have the Crown Hybrid fuel economy rated at 42 mpg city/41 highway/41 combined, and the more powerful Hybrid Max at 29 city/32 highway/30 combined.

Why might the top-selling EV in Japan make a lot of sense in U.S. A recent drive of the Nissan Sakura , the bestselling EV in Japan, had us seeing how smaller EVs might help us work with the infrastructure we have rather than hung up on the issues of charging super-size heavyweight EVs. big cities too?

Probably the most needed and least controversial proposed change is the elimination of the phaseout of the tax cap that begins in the quarter after a manufacturer sells 200,000 BEVs or PHEVs in the US. The credit is not available for Tesla vehicles acquired after December 31, 2019 and General Motors EV purchased after March 31, 2020.
