Fifty-six models of electric-drive vehicles were available in model year (MY) 2018 in the US. Together, small sport utility vehicles (SUV), standard SUVs and minivans accounted for another quarter. Electric-drive vehicles include battery-electric, plug-in-hybrid electric, and fuel-cell vehicles.

Over the past several years, demand among American consumers has shifted from wagons to SUVs. Through the first half of 2019, SUVs account for 47% of the industry sales, and more than 50% of Volkswagen sales. Volkswagen plans to release three new SUV models in the next 24 months. CROZZ electric SUV debuts early next year.

e-POWER uses a highly efficient gasoline engine to generate electricity for the electric motor that propels the vehicle. The second-generation e-POWER system features an all-new electric motor and inverter. Electric motor torque was increased by 10% and output by 6%. The new inverter is 40% smaller and 30% lighter.

China-based GAC Motor will feature its existing sedan, SUV, minivan and NEV at the 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. GAC Motor will debut the GA4, an all-new signature sedan at 2018 NAIAS. This GA4 is a mainstream sedan built on GAC Motor’s own A-Class sedan platform.

The e-POWER system uses a highly efficient gasoline engine to generate electricity for the electric motor that propels the vehicle. In March 2018 an e-POWER version of the popular Serena minivan was launched, which was followed by the all-new Kicks SUV e-POWER in June 2020. e-POWER power train (for New Note).

The drop in pricing was driven by significant price cuts at Tesla, which commands more than 65% of the electric vehicle segment. Electric vehicles and luxury cars had incentives close to 6% of ATP, and both saw ATP decline in December as a result. Five years prior, in December 2018, luxury market share set a record at 16.5%.
