Acura unveiled the restyled and refreshed 2017 MDX luxury SUV at the New York International Auto Show, adding available Sport Hybrid Super Handling-All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) powertrain technology as a model option. The 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid is powered by a 3.0-liter AcuraWatch standard.

Honda unveiled the fifth-generation CR-V, America’s best-selling SUV over the past 20 years. The completely redesigned and reengineered 2017 CR-V, going on sale this winter, features the model’s first turbocharged engine and new features and technologies. US car buyers have purchased nearly 4 million CR-Vs since its US launch in 1997.

In response to a shift in consumer demand toward SUVs and trucks, the Company discontinued compact car production and retooled plants in Illinois, Ohio and Michigan to make full use of available capacity to expand the Jeep and Ram brands. More than 300 new jobs were added to support production, which launched in June 2017.

After that, Honda will make a plug-in hybrid type available for the major models and increase the number of models sequentially. The East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio will start producing the Acura MDX in 2017 as the second plant to produce light truck models in North America.

On January 28 GM announced that it plans (aspires) to exclusively offer electric vehicles by 2035, ending production of its cars, trucks and SUVs with diesel- and gasoline-powered engines.
