The sixth-generation of hydrogen propulsion has been completely revised from 2016 to 2020, according to aviation requirements. The experience with the sixth-generation drive and the modular structure of the fuel cell would support both air taxi applications with 1.5 In 2016, the aircraft made its first flight ( earlier post ).

On 29 September 2016, the HY4 aircraft took off on its first official flight from Stuttgart Airport. The HY4 fuel cell aircraft was developed by the DLR Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics together with partners Hydrogenics, Pipistrel, H2FLY, the University of Ulm and Stuttgart Airport.

A study by researchers from the University of Denver and the University of Puget Sound indicates that high-mileage light-duty fleets contribute higher emissions and emissions share than expected based on their actual numbers in the fleet. Most emission inventory calculations use a computer model to estimate the fleet’s emissions.

HY4 uses a hybrid system: the main power source is a low-temperature Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell, which continuously supplies the electric motor with durable and reliable power. All-electric cars, like the upcoming Nissan Leaf, have a range of about 100 miles and are powered by electric motors instead of the gas-powered internal combustion engine found in most current cars.
