Hyundai and Kia will pay a combined $100-million civil penalty, the largest in Clean Air Act history, to resolve violations concerning the testing and certification of vehicles sold in the US (“Conformity Violations”) and will spend approximately $50 million on measures to prevent any future violations. Genesis began as a stand-alone company in 2015 and is just now hitting its stride with a line-up of sedans and SUVs that get rave reviews. Additional charging is also through powerful motor regeneration.

Broadly, Navigant expects expansion in both the higher end of the market (thereby putting competitive pressure on Tesla Motors), as Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes, Saab, and Volvo introduce their first plug-in cars. More mainstream models will come from Kia, Mahindra, Škoda, and Volkswagen. Tesla Motors will have a bumpy year.

The EV6, with an electric driving range up to 310 miles, arrived at Kia dealers in all 50 states in late January 2022. Single electric motor. Single motor. Dual motors. Power and Range.

The Ioniq Hybrid boasts the highest fuel economy in the US (up to 58 mpg) for a non-plug-in vehicle and the Ioniq Electric is the industry’s most efficient EV (136 mpge). Overall, the number of hybrid models on sale in the US has declined (from 47 in 2015 to 31 in 2016), but average sales per model has increased (up to 11,194 in 2016).
