New international study finds lab testing of diesel NOx emissions underestimates real-world levels by up to 50%

A new international study has found that laboratory tests of nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel vehicles significantly underestimate the real-world emissions by as much as 50%. Those markets include Australia; Brazil; Canada; China; the European Union; India; Japan; Mexico; Russia; South Korea; and the United States.

Study estimates ~4M children worldwide develop asthma each year because of NO2 air pollution

The study, based on data from 2010 to 2015, estimates that 64% of these new cases of asthma occur in urban areas. NO 2 is a pollutant formed mainly from fossil fuel combustion, and traffic emissions can contribute up to 80% of ambient NO 2 in cities. —Susan Anenberg.
