The 100 battery-driven electric Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL vans ( earlier post ) in use in Berlin and Stuttgart have covered 650,000 km (404,000 miles). Mercedes-Benz delivered the first vehicles for field testing to testing partners in Berlin at the beginning of September 2010, and in Stuttgart in January 2011. Click to enlarge.

The FCCC electric WIV also marks the first commercial vehicle application of a Tesla Motors Li-ion battery pack, which provide up to a 100-mile driving range on a single charge. The battery pack will charge from fully depleted to fully charged in six to eight hours. Tags: Electric (Battery) Fleets.

Powered by Tesla Motors’ lithium-ion batteries, the chassis is 100% electric, including the HVAC system. FCCC is the first company within the industry to utilize Tesla batteries for commercial applications. The battery pack provides up to a 100-mile (161 km) driving range on a single charge.

The first wave of electric car buying is expected to begin around December, when Nissan introduces the Leaf, a five-passenger electric car that will have a range of 100 miles on a fully charged battery and be priced for middle-class families. Battery-powered motors are more efficient than gasoline engines.

An effort led by House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, R-Boca Raton, to give a sales tax exemption to consumers who buy battery-powered, electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids picked up a unanimous endorsement today. The federal stimulus bill also provides a $7,500 tax credit for consumers who purchase plug-in vehicles.
