The UK’s Guardian reports that sales of new electric cars in the UK plummeted by nearly 90% in 2009 to 55 units, compared with their peak sales of 397 units in 2007. Reva Electric Car Company (RECC), the manufacturer of the REVA electric car, is building a new assembly plant in Bangalore, India with a capacity of 30,000 units per year, to accommodate the increased production of the REVA and for the planned one new model per year from the end of 2009.

And Tata Motors , an Indian industrial giant, is "working on an electric version of the Indica for the overseas market, slated to be launched by 2009," according to the Hindu Business Line.
